During my time interning at DHB Global I have learned so much about the biotech/healthcare industry every day. I learn more than I would in school if I were taking summer classes at this moment and time. In the world of biotech, research is one of the most important things when it comes to trusting a potential biotech finance company. Most finance companies in biotech only know the finance side of things and have trouble understanding the technical side.
For my internship, I do this market research and analysis every day. The amount of information I have collected of information I have collected and studied covers a wide range of areas including FMT research (Fecal Microbiota Transplant), microfluidics companies, US/ Chinese relationships, and even VC firms that focus on China. With all of this information, my company is better established in the market as the knowledgeable firm. The strength of DHB Global is that since we are very knowledgeable and diversified when it comes to our employees we are the most trustful and efficient firm in the market. In addition, we have a wide range of crucial relationships overseas that other companies located here in China do not have.
On the other hand, one of DHB’s weaknesses include the general size of the firm. The firm has about 20 employees working making it very hard to get everything done in a timely manner. Sometimes we even have to outsource our work to 3rd party individuals. The opportunities in sight for DHB are extremely big. The biotech industry is the fastest growing market in China and is the biggest in the world, making it extremely important to be establishing relationships now as there is only more room to grow.
Finally, the threats that face DHB are the threats that face many foreign companies reaching into China. There is always the threat of a government funded company that is given way too much money/power by the government will push DHB out. This would be done just by the sheer amount of money they would have. Something that happened to me after work in Beijing I thought was really amazing. There is this cool looking building that I have always wanted to go into since my arrival here in Beijing. After work on Friday I was admiring the building when what looked to be a security officer motioned for me to follow him in. When I followed, he gave me a mini tour of the building itself! I thought it was really cool he would take the time out of his day to show me around one of my favorite places in Beijing.
